Vlado Lenoch Dies in Crash of this P-51

We are very saddened to report that Vlado Lenoch and passenger Bethany Root died in the crash of his P-51D “Baby Duck” at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday Jul. 16, 2017, in Atchison County, Kansas after departing the Amelia Earhart Airport at approximately 10:00 AM. Ms Root was the airport manager of the Amelia Earhart Airport (K59) where Sunday’s flight originated. Not very much is known about the cause of the mishap at this time.

Vlado was very well liked and admired in the aviation community. His loss is a shock to all of us. Please keep his family and the family of Ms Root in your thoughts and prayers.

The Zenith Flies

Saturday the 8th, the Zenith flew for the first time. It’s been 2 years in the making, but the build is complete and the airplane is flying. The FAA requires 40 hrs of flight testing before the airplane can be flown outside the local area. The Illinois Aviation Museum is working hard to get those hours flown off in order to have the aircraft on display at AirVenture. Congratulations and thanks to the countless number of volunteers who made this project a success.

Our Young Eagles Season

Wow, what a great turnout for the July rally. We flew 94 kids! Everyone had a great time and the weather was near perfect. Many thanks to the volunteers who came out to support the event.

The next Young Eagles rally is Saturday, August 12th, from 9 am to noon. Please come out and join us. Follow the link at the top of page for all the information.

One of our own…

Alex was recently featured in an EAA article about his involvement with the Young Eagles program. We are proud to have had a part in inspiring him.
